The Princess of Wales's Traditional Festive Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers
Her Royal Highness has organised her annual festive musical service at the iconic London venue, with guests including dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.
The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of carols, music and readings from performers including Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The central message of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.
In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose daughter died of a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," Her Royal Highness stated in a message before the concert.
Carefully Paced Reappearance
The Princess of Wales is continuing her own steady comeback to official duties subsequent to her illness and medical care, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".
Musical Talent and Access
Attendees entering the Abbey can listen to budding artists supported by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the late Duchess of Kent to widen access to instrumental training.
An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been helped by the charity, with awards contributing to equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at tonight's service.
"Music can be very expensive," she stated. She is now a student at the prestigious music academy, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to hone their artistic talents.
A Family Affair
Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who is a euphonium player, will also be at the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.
Within the audience will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a youth community award, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to generate funds for food banks.
Festive Decor and Performances
The Abbey has been decorated with custom-created holiday decorations, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
The musical lineup includes Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a Cornish sea shanty group, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on television on December 24th.
