Similar to Storm Claudia hit the north-west the prior day, City overwhelmed the visitors away at the Etihad. It was a statement 3-0 triumph for their manager's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a result that clearly signaled their leadership claims as they consolidated their place at the WSL pinnacle.

Consecutive Setbacks for Manchester United

This result represented back-to-back WSL losses for the United manager's side for the maiden instance since spring 2024, putting them seven points off the top team with their championship aspirations hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's capability to juggle domestic and continental football with a small squad has been a hotly discussed issue since they earned a place in the UCL. Reviewing the calendar, it always seemed this was the week that would truly test this ability. Regrettably for the away side, they seemed tired from start to finish, the historic win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having taken a toll.

Team Changes

Marc Skinner had attempted to freshen things up with a handful of changes. Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Janssen and Leah Galton all brought vigor, although the dropping of the on-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes was questioned.

City, in contrast, have fewer fitness worries. Andrée Jeglertz made one adjustment from their most recent win over Everton with Hemp making her first start since recovering from a physical setback.

Dominant First Half

The storm clouds started to gather for Skinner and his squad from the kickoff. This was a show of the strength from Manchester City whose energetic forward line played with and dismantled the opposition with a sublime initial 45 minutes display that saw them net a trio in 21 minutes.
