It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have already been conquered.

This is the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed over three years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are what's still available for a team that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase exceeding 300, taking back their record for the highest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the pitchers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their hitters to possess a record if not afforded the chance.

In the end, the consequence of Australia conceding 330 was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Different voices suggest with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this hundred was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this knock was preceded by six games in India over the past few weeks in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in the nets, it was a challenging time because it appeared I lacked timing at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit kick in and you just lock into the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has always been her great strength - and a priceless quality in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

A single was taken off the bowler's initial ball and from there the batsman was on her way.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, kind of motivated me," commented Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 deliveries while she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

Once she was out the team required another 66 at run per delivery - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm happy we have the assurance to achieve that now," stated Healy further.

"Ideally we won't need to do it another time but, should it happen, we are confident we can succeed."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this World Cup want to hear.

In recent days a sense they will win from any position has only strengthened - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they were eliminated from last year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy was absent due to ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she wished she had played despite the injury.

But while she later admitted those fitness problems have postponed consideration of ending her career, this championship is expected to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is yet to win a global event as captain.

Success in India would bring her to the top of her ultimate challenge.
